Sage Plant (green)

Sage Plant (green)

Description

Salvia officinalis

This is a bushy spreading evergreen perennial with aromatic leaves and purple flowers. It can grow up to 1m and spread about the same. Sage prefers full sun and moist, but well drained soil, although it can tolerate partial shade.

Used in herbal medicine for it's aromatic astringency and antimicrobial properties, which makes it perfect for soothing sore throats and using for colds. One one hand it can help to warm you up when chilled, and on the other it can be helpful for excessive sweating and menopausal hot flashes. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Make into a fresh herbal tea, or dry the leaves for later use, or make a herbal tincture. It is also a culinary herb that aids digestion, especially after eating heavy foods and can be used in cooking.
