Wild Lettuce Plant

Lactuca virosa

This is a biennial plant that is a low growing rosette in the first year and becomes a tall flowering plant in it's 2nd year (up to 2m!). I recommend to remove the seed heads after flowering because it can self seed over your garden. It prefers well drained soils and a sunny spot in your garden.

It is traditionally used for helping with sleep, restlessness and calming the nervous system. It's quite bitter and contains a milky sap and can be used to make a tincture or infusion.
