Description
Mentha piperita
A lower growing (up to 1m) aromatic spreading mint, which I recommend to contain within your garden in a pot or somewhere it can grow and spread happily. Mint can be propagated from the roots, so it can be hard to remove from your garden. It prefers a damper soil and can tolerate a bit of shade.
This is one of the strongest and most medicinal and pleasant tasting of the mints. It is traditionally used as a digestive tonic to both calm and stimulate digestion. It is cooling and refreshing and can also be used during colds and fevers.
It can be eaten raw, used in cooking or made into a herbal tea or tincture or dried for later use.
