From Falkland, Fife
A perennial growing up to 4ft tall with pinky purple flowers in the summer, which prefers a moist, but well drained soil and will grow in most soil types.
In herbal medicine this very bitter herb is used for anxiety and tension in the body, as well as for heart health for palpitations, high blood pressure and support for the emotional heart. It's bitterness also suggests support for the liver and digestion, and it's name 'mother' as a women's herb for hormone balance and menstrual support.
I use the aerial parts to make a tincture because of the bitterness it can be challenging to drink the tea unless balanced with other herbs.
