Description
Althea officinalis
This is a tall growing perennial herb (over 2m). It is happiest in damper, heavier soils, but can be grown elsewhere too and needs plenty of light.
It is traditionally used to soothe the digestive, urinary and respiratory systems due to its anti-inflammatory and mucilaginous healing properties.
The leaves and flowers can be used from the 1st year on wards and the roots can be dug after 2-3 years. It can be used to make a tea, cold infusion, syrup or tincture.
