Description
Melissa officinalis
A bushy perennial member of the mint family with aromatic lemon scented leaves. Lemonbalm grows up to 1m tall and prefers full sun and a well drained soil. It will grow well in a pot or planter.
Lemonbalm is used as a relaxing nervine in herbal medicine -it provides gentle support to the nervous system and helps us to calm down and relax. It can be especially supportive for anxiety when used long term. It also helps to calm and relax the digestive system, and may have antiviral properties.
The fresh leaves make a beautiful lemon flavoured tea and it's an essential one for your herbal tea garden! The leaves can also be dried for later use, or preserved in a tincture.
