Echinacea purpurea

An eye catching perennial that grows up to 1.2m and spreads about 45cm, so leave plenty of space for this one. It prefers a fertile, loamy and well drained soil. Save the seeds in the autumn and cut back after flowering.

This is a herbal remedy used to support and cleanse the lymphatic system by supporting elimination and cleansing. It also helps to stimulate the immune system if you feel a cold or flu coming on, and it is antimicrobial.

The root is the main part that is used and the most medicinal part, and can be dug up after 3-5years of growth to make a tincture or decoction. I also use the flowers and leaves during the summer as a tea or tincture.
